PLACING GEOCACHES - COVID-19 - Northern Territory
There are currently no Covid-19 restrictions on placing caches in NT.
Events are being published, and attendees must follow venue protocols which may apply.

Area Where Special Conditions Apply

Kakadu National Park

Geocaches need to be placed close to paths and tracks. The Reviewer may ask to see permission if there is any doubt.

There are many other areas where access requires a permit, and permission from the area management will be required for placing a geocache. Especially the major venues such as Uluru, Kata Tjuta etc.

Community Caches

A geocache may be designated as a Community Cache only when all of the following conditions are met:

  1. The cache was originally placed in 2006 or earlier.

  2. The cache is recognised as having historical significance to the geocaching community.

  3. Attempts to contact the original cache owner have been made and have been unsuccessful.

  4. The cache is to be maintained by an experienced geocacher with a demonstrated record of reliable and timely maintenance. No sock puppet accounts to be used.

  5. The cache must be maintained as closely as possible to its original form, including location, container, description, and terrain and difficulty ratings.

  6. The Reviewer agrees to undertake any necessary listing maintenance.

  7. The Reviewer will clearly note on the cache listing that it has been approved as a Community Cache and identify the nominated community maintainer.

EVENT STACKING GUIDELINE
The intent of the Event Stacking guideline is to prevent the creation of two or more events which can easily be attended by the same attendees, thus turning it into a smilie gathering exercise rather than a genuine social meetup.

For this state, the guideline is interpreted as –

Events must be time separated such that the start of an event must be at least 4 hours after the end of another event, if the events are within 30km if both events are in the city, and 50 km if one or both are rural.

CITOs are exempt from this restriction.
